Alison Krauss Heads Out on Tour to Support Paper Airplane

Alison Krauss Union Station has lined up a slew of dates this spring to support her 2011 release, Paper Airplane.

The tour will kick off in Nashville at the Taste of Inspiration Gala, which will be held at the Loveless Barn on March 17. After that, the 21-date tour will take the bluegrass fiddler and singer around the country before she ends up in Grand Prairie, Texas on May 5. Additionally, the band has two more festival dates lined up. They will play the Strawberry Festival in Camp Mather, Calif. on May 26 and at FloydFest in Floyd, Va. on July 29. Paper Airplane was released in April of last year. The album was the first record by Krauss and Union Station to reach number one on the Billboard country charts, and also was their highest charting album on the Billboard 200 album chart, peaking at number three. The album was the group’s first record since 2004’s Lonely Runs Both Ways, which won three Grammy Awards.

Though Krauss signed her first album contract in 1985, she has become much better known in the past decade. In 2000, she contributed to a number of songs on the soundtrack to the Coen Brother’s film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” which went on to sell over seven million copies and help bring bluegrass music to a wider audience. Many of the Krauss’ tracks were performed with Dan Tyminski, who also plays in Union Station. Tyminski performed the lead vocal for the song “Man of Constant Sorrow,” which was “sang” by George Clooney in the movie.

Krauss further raised her profile when she released Raising Sand, a duet album with former Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant in 2007. That album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and went on to sell over one million copies.
