We love food. So much so, that dining out has become a full contact sport. My husband Stan has 30 years as a professional chef. I fell in love with Lasagna at the age of 5 and have been on a quest to eat the best available food ever since.
We will tell you the truth about restaurants (Mid-Atlantic U.S.) and food products. We will point you to places worth going just for the eating. And we will throw in some ideas to make your home-prepared food, just a little more wondrous.
We’ve all been there before- enjoying a big meal with friends at a nice restaurant when the bill comes. That’s when the trouble begins. Someone hasn’t brought enough cash. Someone doesn’t want to pay for the cocktails someone else had, while someone else argues with the waitress about charges on the bill (even though they ate the entire dish they are arguing about). And don’t forget the friend who doesn’t believe in tipping over 10%.
I don’t know about you, but it makes me cringe... Read Full Story
Last night I tried Domaso , a new Italian restaurant in the swanky Kimpton Hotel Palomar in Rosslyn, Virginia. Overall, I'd say that the hotel has a very cool style, the restaurant is fair, but the bar and location are the real winners. The restaurant is at the tip of Rosslyn, on the fourth floor, overlooking the Potomac and Georgetown. In the spring the restaurant plans to open a large terrace that will provide some of the best outside dining in Virginia. At the bar before dinner, I tried... Read Full Story
Despite a minor win, the 1999 and 2005 gold medal winning American team has lost its gold medal ranking to the French in the 2008 Baking World Cup competition. Team France ended its 12-year losing streak when it rose to the top with its high scores in three out of four categories of bread baking. The French dominated with their authentic light and crusty baguettes, elegant Viennese pastry (yeasted sweet bread) and an elaborate bread masterpiece dedicated to the female form in an haute... My love of the restaurant Opal began when it was half the size and owned by Brigitte Guehr; and also called Brigitte's. I lived behind the Arlington in a studio along Chapala and would look forward to meeting friends at the warm and cozy spot. The cafe has always reminded me of a Parisian spot on Ile Saint-Louis. Now the restaurant is twice the size and a whole new name and buzz. The dining room still somehow retains its aura of a small intimate locals restaurant. On this particular visit I... Read Full Story
