Actress Ally Sheedy has revealed her schoolgirl daughter Rebecca is a lesbian while stepping out at recent gay charity event.

Sheedy, the star of '80s classic films including St Elmo’s Fire and The Breakfast Club,

made the announcement while attending a benefit for the non-profit Trevor Project, a group that helps young people questioning their sexuality.

The 48-year-old explained she was at the event because Rebecca had recently declared herself to be a lesbian. "My daughter has just come out. So [I'm here because] it's personal," the Daily Express reports Sheedy as saying.
