Alonzo Mourning sued after alleged hit-and-run accident in Miami

Former NBA star Alonzo Mourning is being sued by William Candelario, a 21-year-old Miami college student who claims he was injured and almost killed in a hit-and-run automobile accident caused by Mourning earlier this week, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

Candelario claims that when he was on his was home from Miami Beach on Sunday, a Porsche being driven by Mourning hit Candelario’s Audi, causing it to flip several times.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that Mourning was involved in the second of two wrecks involving Candelario’s car, according to the report. Candelario’s vehicle, after colliding with another car, was stopped on the roadway when Mourning hit it, police said.

Candelario told his attorney that Mourning returned to the scene of the crash scene about 45 to 50 minutes after the accident in a vehicle driven by his wife, Tracy, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Candelario was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for a concussion and bruises.  The Sun-Sentinel was unsuccessful in its effort to get a comment from Mourning, and police say the incident is being investigated and charges are pending.

The news seems to be bad timing for Mourning, as his 15th annual Zo’s Summer Groove, a charity event for South Florida children, got underway on Wednesday. Mourning is currently vice president of player programs and development with the Miami Heat.
