Here's a book about alternative cancer treatments that is energizing and hopeful. And it is also maddening, because much of the information has been suppressed for decades in the U.S. I feel really cheated about that.

Outsmart Your Cancer: Alternative Non-Toxic Treatments That Workby Tanya Harter Pierce describes the details of twenty-one cancer treatment systems.

I could understand most of the medical explanations. The stories of the researchers and doctors who developed the treatments were often fascinating. There is information on how and where to access each type of treatment, and of course there are case studies of cancer patients who were helped.

If you have health insurance and competent doctors, it's easy to slide into the cancer care system. You can study and choose treatment options and complementary support. I did that well. Twice.

But the time to try something instead of surgery, radiation, & chemotherapy (aka the slash-burn-and-poison system) is before you get a biopsy, because if the biopsy is malignant, you have stray cancer cells let loose into your body because of the biopsy and you just want a fast deliverance.

Tim and I are doing a lot with diet & lifestyle to prevent cancer. Are we doing enough? We hope so. What will we do if one of us is diagnosed with cancer? Probably try one of these alternative treatments before getting a biopsy.

Tanya Pierce's book gives us another side of the story on cancer prevention and treatment.
