Remember Alycia Lane? The ex co-anchor for Philadelphia's KYW nightly news that was fired last year after assaulting a police officer? Well, it seems the 11 o'clock news is just a magnet for scandal, as Lane's former co-anchor Larry Mendte was temporarily taken off air Sunday following an investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The television station released a statement Sunday stating their cooperation with an investigation currently being conducted by the FBI. Mendte allegedly opened Lane's private emails while the two were working together. The FBI is supposedly also looking into whether Mendte passed the information from those emails to the media.
In a statement Saturday, Mendte's lawyer said the FBI had searched his client's home Thursday in connection with claims made by Lane.
Lane's lawyer responded, saying his client had made no claims involving anyone.
Mendte could be in a lot of trouble if these claims are true. Accessing someone's e-mail without their consent is considered a federal offense.
