Maria Sharapova Pulls Off Tough Victory

Top seed Maria Sharapova has progressed into the quarter finals of the Bausch & Lomb Championships but only just. Sharapova defeated 15th seed Anabel Medina Garrigues in 3 sets, 7-6 5-7 7-6.

Dominika Cibulkova upset 2nd seed Anna Chakvetadze 6-2 3-6 6-1.

10th seed Alona Bondarenko was a 3 set winner over 6th seed Dinara safina 7-6 0-6 7-5.

11th seed Amelie Mauresmo was also a 3 set winner, defeating 7th seed Agnieszka Radwanska 3-6 7-5 7-6.

"It was definitely a tough one; she has been playing well this year and she is one of the young guns," Mauresmo said. "When I got up 5-2 in the third I think I got a little tight and she wasn't making any errors, but I'm glad I was still able to come in and go for it in the tie-break and I think that's what made the difference at the end. I ended the match on a positive note."

8th seed Agnes Szavay defeated 12th seed Katarina Srebotnik 3-6 6-2 6-3.

13th seed Virginie Razzano won in straight sets, 6-2 6-4 over Olga Govortsova.

16th seed Lindsay Davenport was a 3 set winner over Karolina Sprem 6-4 3-6 6-4.

Alize Cornet defeated Elena Vesnina 6-1 7-5.
