The FDA announced today that GlaxoSmithKlein must add to the warning label on Avandia boxes. GSK has agreed to include new information on the existing box warning regarding the potential heart risk linked to the drug.
Those with type 2 diabetes who also have heart disease or a high risk for heart attack are urged to discuss the revised warning with their health care provider when considering treatment.

Sen. Charles Grassley (R) asked the United States Food and Drug Administration to confirm that an internet FDA group voted to keep Avandia on the market. The Senate Finance Committee discovered that the FDAs Drug and Safety Oversight Board (DSOB) voted on October 2 to keep the drug on the market.
