Amy Farris, Fiddler for Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women, Passes Away

Amy Farris, a well-known fiddle player in both the Austin and Los Angeles music scene, passed away this weekend, according to a Twitter message by her friend Kelly Willis. "My dear sweet friend Amy Farris died over the weekend," Willis posted to her Twitter account Sept. 30. "Together we weren't exactly fearless. But we did it anyway. I'm devastated."

Farris was a fiddler with Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women, and preparing to play at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival this weekend in San Francisco. She had previously played with artists including Ray Price, Bruce Robison, Alejandro Escovedo, and Brian Wilson.

In message posted to Facebook, Dave Alvin wrote: "Mourning the loss of my friend and musical compatriot, Amy Farris.  The words sad and sorrowful are too weak to express what I'm feeling.  Rest in Peace, Amy."
