Amy Grant in Belfast

Lead Me On

The world’s best selling Christian singer performed in Ireland for the first time ever this summer. It’s been 15 years since she has toured anywhere outside the United States. Amy Grant took Belfast’s Waterfront Hall by storm with her Unplugged set.
She arrived on stage looking very youthful to be more than half a century old, simply clad in jeans and a top. A perfect figure, long flowing brown hair and killer cheek bones ensure she still looks stunning.
“Someone said it rains a lot in Northern Ireland!”, she laughed. And sure enough, it had incessantly drizzled all that Saturday afternoon.
Amy soon unleashed her powerful vocals in an acoustically driven version of Lead Me On before strumming her guitar for the more chilled Father’s Eyes.
She opened a bottle of water. “Don’t ya get so dehydrated flying?” she asked. Those well used vocal chords sure need rehydrating. The night before Amy played in Glasgow and the following day she was off to London.
Better Than A Hallelujah is a recent hit off her Somewhere Down the Road album and revealed Amy hasn’t lost her ability to compose a catchy tune and write great lyrics.
“My music has become more fiddly-dee as I’ve got older,” she told the audience, “I guess that’s what happens when you've been sleeping with a country singer for 11 years!” The country singer in question is her husband Vince Gill.
“Sing Angels!” shouted a member of the audience. A final triumphal blast of music and singing erupted from the stage. The audience got to their feet. And off Amy and the band went. “See y’all next year!” she quipped.
