Amy Victoria Beck Teacher Arrested
Amy Victoria Beck stood in court looking dejected, her head slightly bowed and her eyes either closed or fixed on the floor as Judge Patrick J. Hegarty passed sentence. She had pleaded no contest in March to one count each of unlawful sexual intercourse and committing a lewd act on a child.
Amy Victoria Beck is a middle school teacher at David Starr Jordan Middle School. Beck accused of having had sex and oral sex to a 14 year old student. Amy Beck is 33 years old and teaches English and social science as well.
With her lawyer by her position, police say, Amy Victoria Beck told investigators the relationship with one of her previous pupils started in March 2009 and kept going till end of December. She stated it left her wrecked with guilt.
The 33-year-old former Burbank middle school teacher pleaded no contest in March to unlawful sexual intercourse and committing a lewd act on a child.
Burbank Superior Court Judge Patrick Hegarty ordered the former David Starr Jordan Middle School teacher to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
Thirty-three-year-old Amy Beck also was ordered to register as a sex offender during her sentencing Friday in a Burbank court.
Beck, who resigned from her teaching job at David Starr Jordan Middle School, walked into the Burbank police station in March and told officers that she’d had a seven-month relationship with a boy. She said the relationship had ended in December and left her guilt-ridden.
“Burglars, robbers, criminal suspects, they don’t turn themselves in,” Quesada said. “But when people are overwhelmed with guilt, and they have a conscience, I guess it makes them do what’s right.”
After hearing Beck’s story, detectives tracked down the boy, who is now a 15-year-old high school student. Quesada said he confirmed what she told them.
David Starr Jordan Middle School teacher Amy Beck, 33, presented herself at the Burbank Police Department on Monday, in the company of her attorney, and confessed to sex crimes with a minor. She was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child of 14.
Amy Beck is 33. Beck has not entered a plea. She has also not posted bail and remains in custody.
The school says it’s shocked because Beck was well “loved” by students. The boy is reportedly 15 now and was 14 when the alleged acts started.
Amy Victoria Beck has taught English and Social Science for nearly 10 years. Her bail is at $175,000. Beck has yet to comment on the matter.
It gets weirder. Beck is the wife of Burbank Police Officer Nathaniel Beck, and the mother of three children. Apparently the acts took place during the previous school year with an 8th grade student, and continued until September of 2009, after the student had advanced to the high-school level.
Beck, 33, teaches English and social science at David Starr Jordan Middle School. She was scheduled to be arraigned in Burbank Superior Court on Wednesday with four counts of unlawful sex with a person under 16 and one count of oral copulation with a person under 16.
The school indicates that Beck was well “loved” by students. As is often the case in these stories the school is shocked at the news. The boy is reportedly 15 now and was 14 when the alleged acts began.
