Anabolic steroids are a classification of synthetic hormones used primarily to build muscle mass and strength in weight training athletes. Anabolic steroids are a very broad and generalized term that covers and encompasses hundreds of different products. Anabolic steroids range in products from various synthetic testosterone esters to oral products.

Anabolic steroids are used primarily by weight training athletes, but athletes from every sport played use them to gain a competitive advantage. Everything from speed in tennis, to hitting home runs in baseball, anabolic steroids assist the athlete with faster recovery times, increased performance, and lean muscle mass.

Anabolic steroids are illegal for use in competition due to the unnatural advantage the user will have over other athletes. Anabolic steroids are also illegal to posses in most countries and acquiring them usually means breaking local and federal laws. Anabolic steroids are commonly used for increasing muscle size; therefore potential for abuse by non competitive athletes is high. It is not uncommon for average gym lifters to use anabolic steroids for vanity reasons.

All anabolic steroids are synthesized from testosterone, the most common anabolic steroids used. Popular anabolic steroids include; testosterone enanthate, testosterone cypionate, deca durabolin, dianabol, anadrol, equipoise, and more. All the aforementioned anabolic steroids are derivatives of synthetic testosterone, having been altered to change the profile to make the anabolic steroids more anabolic or androgenic.

Anabolic steroids are usually used for pre-contest bodybuilding use, or by casual users and lifters due to the minimization of side effects generally associated with high androgen use. Such anabolic steroids side effects include; increased body hair, male pattern baldness, acne, oily skin, and more. Androgenic anabolic steroids cause more rapid increases in body weight, but not all of the gains may be from muscle, increases can also be water retention as high androgen anabolic steroids cause more of the unwanted side effects.

Upcoming trends in Law Enforcement regarding steroid busts

Let me be the first to say I’m not always right. I get a variety of information, both good and bad, and have to filter it as I see fit. In 2006, I heard that A-Rod was using steroids (no, seriously), from a contact up in Boston - and I dismissed it as Yankee-hating. Well, the joke was on me (or maybe it was on Selena Roberts, who only sold 16k copies of her A-Rod book, out of the 150k printed).

But then again, I accurately predicted the nature and location of the DEA’s two biggest steroid busts of the past 3 years, beginning in 2006 when I predicted Operation Raw Deal, and continuing to my prediction of Operation Farmacia de Juicy Phruit, here in my blog, almost a full year in advance. So, except for the A-Rod thing, and maybe a few other trips and fumbles along the way, I’ve been pretty accurate in my predictions, and assessments of the upcoming trends in law enforcement regarding steroid busts. I’m just making educated guesses here, or compiling a bunch of rumors….nothing more. But like I said, I’ve been pretty accurate in the past.

I’ll go on the record and say that we’re going to see increased activity across the pond with regards to steroid busts. England is, from what I hear, increasingly on the DEA’s radar, and the problem I’ve heard cited is that their drug laws are currently too lax. I don’t know if we’re going to see a legislative change (and I certainly hope not), but we’ve seen it before, and a major bust in England wouldn’t surprise me. They’re hosting the Olympics in 2012, so we’ll certainly see some medium-to-big busts there before that time.

Canada is hosting the upcoming (Winter) Olympics, and this will likely be enough to get them on the ball, and looking to make some sizable busts before 2010. They also have an arrest warrant out for the owner of Axio Labs, who I feel is on borrowed time right now. Axio will be lucky to make it through the summer without suffering another major bust (remember, the owner has already been busted in the past, and so has one of their Canadian remailers).

Look for the Moldovian government to be involved with this next bust involving Axio, and potentially Geneza Labs. It would be difficult for these clowns to even make it through the Summer, if I’m correct about their situation.

There’s continuing activity in Louisiana, and the law enforcement officials there have no problem with publicly stating that they’re watching a bunch of people for steroid related activity. Out in Opelousas, Eunice and Krotz Springs (Louisiana), they’ve publicly said that they’ve still got over 100 suspected steroid customers under observation! This means we’re going to keep seeing busts for a very long time to come, as long as this initiative is in place. Once one person is busted, we all know what happens….

I can only imagine that the clowns over at IBE will be affected by the activity in Louisiana picking up, although I’ve thought in the past (as have most) that they’d be out of business by now. They had some explaining to do to the feds already, and have been picked up numerous times on a variety of recreational drug charges, as well as charges related to their research chemical business…it’s a wonder they’re still around. With Chris Navoy being recently sentenced to 27 months for his research chemical business, I predict the FDA will be emboldened to go after this industry, which has gotten a bit of a pass, really.

Back in Oklahoma, Agent Brian Surber tells us that their steroid probe is ongoing and likely will result in more arrests, adding that it’s been very difficult for him to estimate when this investigation is going to end. Expect more bodybuilders to keep going down in Ok for a very long time.

The San Diego DEA is always one of those agencies who “get it” with regards to the reality of the underground world, and have been leaders in both Gear Grinder, Operation Raw Deal, and Operation TKO, so I’m guessing their signature will probably be on the next big bust we see.
