Andie MacDowell (born April 21, 1958) is an American actress and former fashion model. Raised in Gaffney, South Carolina, MacDowell shot to fame when she appeared in ad campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent and Armani. She became a household name after her winning performance in Steven Soderbergh's "Sex, Lies, and Videotape." She has also been in "Groundhog Day" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral." Rosalie Anderson MacDowell was born in Gaffney, South Carolina on April 21, 1958, the youngest of four daughters. Her parents divorced when she was 6, and Andie worked minimum-wage jobs at McDonald’s and Pizza Hut in her teens to bring extra money into the home.After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Winthrop College, but dropped out in 1978, and moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling. Elite Model Management signed her and she was seen in a series of TV commercials for Calvin Klein jeans in the early ’80s. She later became L’Oreal’s exclusive spokesmodel, representing the cosmetics giant in North America up until 1989, and continuing to do so in Europe for many years after that.
