French driver Franck Montagny will make his IndyCar Series debut next week at the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma in a fifth car entered by the Andretti Green Racing Team.
Team officials announced Tuesday that the 31-year-old Frenchman would be added to the lineup for the road course event. Montagny passed his IndyCar road-course licensing test last year at Sebring.
"I am certainly looking forward to my IndyCar debut," Montagny said. "I was able to test one of the team's cars last year and very much enjoyed driving it.
"Being able to test the track later this week will be very helpful for me to learn the circuit and prepare for the race. We have a lot of work to do to get ready, but I believe we are up to the challenge."
Montagny has raced in Formula One with Super Aguri and together with former Champ-Car champion Sebastien Bourdais and Stepahne Sarrazin finished second in June's 24 Hours of LeMans in a Peugot.
Japan's Hideki Mutoh, Brazil's Tony Kanaan and Americans Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick are Andretti Green's full-time drivers in the series.
