Buddy Bell announced his decision to step down as the
Kansas City Royals' manager at the end of this season before his club's game against the
Minnesota Twins Wednesday night.
"I had to make a choice between managing and my family, and to me that's a no-brainer," said Bell.
His daughter Traci was born with Down syndrome, and Bell said he wants to spend more time helping her and see more of his grandchildren.
Health concerns also played a part in Bell's decision to leave his post. Last fall, he had a cancerous growth removed from his throat.
Bell will join the Royals' front office next season as a senior adviser to GM Dayton Moore.
