Atlanta Braves' general manager Frank Wren has laid a big egg thus far in his handling of his team's bullpen situation this offseason. Concerned that Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez would be too expensive for the cost-conscious Braves to retain, Wren wasted no time in signing Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito to fill their roles. MGL gives us some great data. So the best defender of the decade, in terms of overall runs saved, is Andruw Jones, with 161 runs saved. If you look at runs saved per 150 defensive games, given at least 500 defensive games, the leader is... Andruw Jones, at +20 per. If you combine runs saved with positional value, then the best is still Andruw Jones. Last year, Andruw played DH for much of the year... I don't think I've ever seen a player...  

Just when you thought you heard all the rumors possible, there's a new one that sneaks up out of nowhere and catches you by surprise, but makes you think. We all know the Yankees are looking to add to their starting rotation with CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Andy Pettitte already committed to the 2010 season. With John Lackey, Randy Wolf, Rich Harden, and Roy Halladay already signed and moved to other teams, the Yankees are still looking in...  

Going into the offseason Frank Wren had two areas that he needed to address: The bullpen and the lineup. With the addition of Billy Wagner, Takashi Saito, and Jesse Chavez it would appear that the makeover of the bullpen may finally be complete. The real question now is who will Bobby Cox be calling for once the starting pitchers finish their job? The way I see it, assuming the Braves decide to go with seven relievers, as they usually do...  

  The Atlanta Braves have added two significant arms—Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito—to a bullpen that was solid last season but was losing two of its top three pitchers. However, they have failed to address their most glaring issue: offense.
