Transfer Deadline Day

I’ve been dreading this day for the last week or so, and expecting a bit of a transfer ding-dong with regards to one or two of our players, and so far 1 in particular has been subject to bids according to the press.  We’re reported to have turned down a £30million bid for Andy Carroll from Liverpool, and I hope we can hold on to him for a good few years.  He’s a real bright prospect, and I imagine any fee that high will end up being paid in installments, and with certain add-ons, i.e. if Liverpool/Spurs ever qualify for the Champions League again whilst he’s there we’ll get £x million, which to a team like us trying to survive the first season back in the Premier League is of no use.  Specially with only 10 hours to go (at writing this) how are we meant to find a replacement! It’s a crazy day thats for sure.

Liverpool have had a £30m offer for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll rejected, BBC Sport understands.

Newcastle insist the 22-year-old is not for sale and reportedly turned down an approach from Tottenham last week.

Carroll has scored 11 goals in 19 league games this season and made his full England debut in November’s 2-1 defeat by France at Wembley.

From the ever reliable BBC Sport Website

It’s a massive gamble spending that much on a player who ahs only had a handful of games at the top level, yet still sits 3rd in the Top Goalscorers list in the League with a amazing 11 goals.  Let’s keep him and Tiote and hopefully we’ll go on to better things.
