Pettitte is making return look easy

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
A lot was made of Andy Pettitte‘s return to the majors after a year in retirement. Most wondered if he was good enough to make a comeback, whether he would be too rusty, or whether he was even physically capable of a return. Well, he’s back and he’s making it look easy. After a quick tuneup start that had poor results, but really was only two bad pitches, Pettitte has settled down. He pitched a brilliant game last week against the Reds and he continued that last night against the Royals. His...Read Full Story

Pettitte’s and Swisher’s return brings excitement back to Yankees

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
Last weekend, the Yankees got back two players who should help inject life and fight back into the team. Andy Pettitte, with his glare of steel and nerves of the same, roused the Bronx in a way I don’t believe I’ve heard in years.  When it was over, The House That George Built shook with a roar the way The House That Ruth Built used to.  He didn’t pitch great and it didn’t matter. His impact was immediately felt the moment he stepped onto the field and headed to the place where he belongs...Read Full Story

Details of Pettitte’s $2.5M contract

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
Andy Pettitte reportedly signed a one-year $2.5 million minor league deal during the offseason. Those deals are typically pro-rated meaning that since he didn’t start the season with the Yankees, Pettitte wouldn’t receive the full $2.5 mil. That isn’t the case those as the contract is worded in such a way that he’ll receive the full portion, according to an AP report. Here’s what the report says: Pettitte was put on the major league roster Sunday after missing the 2011 season. His contract...Read Full Story

Pettitte likely one start from return to Yankees

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
In what very well may be his final tune up start before joining the Yankees in the Bronx, Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch this Sunday for the Triple-A Empire State Yankees. Pettitte threw 96 pitches in his last start, an extended spring training game on Monday, and declared that he was ready for the big leagues following the start. “I feel I’m strong enough and ready to make my next start with (the Yankees),” Pettitte told MLB.com. “I feel good and it was another solid day. I felt the...Read Full Story

What will happen when Pettitte and Pineda return?

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
You would be hard pressed to find a person more excited than me when I found out that Andy Pettitte had signed a one year, minor-league contract with the Yankees on March 16th.  I was sitting in my Spanish class and, like the bad student I can sometimes be, I had my laptop open.  As I was fiddling through Twitter, the breaking news from baseball writers galore started flooding in.  Andy Pettitte, my all time favorite Yankee pitcher, was coming home to the Bronx.  I jumped out of my chair and...Read Full Story

Pettitte: my strength is not there yet

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
Andy Pettitte made his latest tune up start down in Double-A Trenton on Wedneday and threw 81 pitches over five innings as he struck out three, walked just one, and allowed three runs. My eye has been on a possible May 5 return, especially after the news that Michael Pineda is out for the season, but after last night’s start it appears more likely he will come back on May 10 at the earliest. “I don’t feel like the strength is there yet when I want to hump up and get a little more on my...Read Full Story

Andy Pettitte throws 66 pitches in latest EST start

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte continued on his road back to the Bronx yesterday when he threw 66 pitches, 58 for strikes, in an extended spring training game on Friday. “I’m happy I feel pretty comfortable with all my pitches,” Pettitte told Greg Auman of Newsday. “My legs are getting tired when they’re supposed to be getting tired. [It's] just pushing past when I get a little bit tired and then trying to continue to build on that.” Pettitte will likely make his next start with Double-A...Read Full Story

Pettitte throws 47 pitches in latest MiLB start

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
Andy Pettitte made his latest minor league start on Sunday and said he felt good after throwing 47 pitches and remains on track to return to the Bronx on May 5th or 10th. “Right now, I feel good. I feel strong,” Pettitte told Adam Berry of MLB.com. “I need to get to where I can get into a game and feel comfortable where I can get into an inning where I may have to throw 30 pitches, because that’s going to happen. That’s stuff you can’t duplicate. I need to get my body ready, and we’re going...Read Full Story
