Zookeepers and fans are anxiously awaiting to see if polar bears Knut and Gianna are going to hit it off after they were introduced to each other this week. Knut struck some poses but Gianna seemed mostly disinterested. We hope romance blooms between the two!

Ivory poaching is a huge concern for the wildlife organisation, Save the Elephants. They’re using tracking devices linked to Google Earth to monitor elephant’s movements in South Africa, Kenya, Congo, Gabon and Mali. Game rangers can use the information to protect elephant herds and when an elephant’s signal stops moving, they can investigate.

Issue 2, as proponents would have us believe, has nothing to do with safe food or fending off groups such as PETA and the Humane Society of the United States. To begin with, the FDA already oversees food safety; and secondly, groups such as PETA have no legislative or enforcement authority. Those powers lie within the state of Ohio.
