The most clever artifice in Igor is the name of the country the title character lives and works in -- Malaria . That is as clever as it gets in Anthony Leondis's animated movie about a mad scientist's assistant who wants more out of life; to create it, mostly, like any self-respecting mad scientist craves to do. Missing from this fairy tale of endlessly dark and stormy days, laboratories in high towers crackling with electricity and maniacal laughter, and evil scientists churning out evil devices, is the defining touches that Dwight Frye brought to the role of Fritz--not Igor--the hunched back assistant in Frankenstein ... GAME OVER is one of the art projects developed by the French-Swiss artist Guillaume Reymond ( NOTsoNOISY creative agency). It consists of a series of collaborative animation movies which revive some of the very first video games. The pixels are replaced by a group of real human beings that are moving from seat to seat in a theatre during about 4 to 6 hours. Each "pixel" has its own rules and decides what s/he wants to do for each picture. Once all these pictures are turned into a short animation movie, a giant human-scale video game unfolds "live". The sound effects are just genius. ... Read Full Story

Watch the Stop Motion Animation Video on Youtube (19 seconds) Sometime back, I created a stop-motion animation film with the soft toys of my 2-year old son playing the lead roles. This 19 second movie was done using just a digital still camera (not video camcorder) and Windows Movie Maker, a free video editing software . If the term "Stop Motion" is new for you, Wikipedia defines it as an animation technique which makes static objects appear to move . The object is moved by very small amounts between individual frames, producing the effect of motion when the film is played back. To create ... Read Full Story

And I thought I had seen everything... I just stumbled upon this t-shirt shop which sells, believe it or not, conspiracy t-shirts! Yep, you heard it! We've seen a lot of shops selling political, anti-war, anti-Bush t-shirts etc, but this one specializes in conspiracy. Here you'll find designs about conspiracy theories you didn't even know they existed! The cool thing about the store is that lots of the designs are actually pretty good and, for a change, very very reasonably priced (not to say cheap). Also, there's ThE TrAsH cAn section where you'll find some misprinted or discontinued shirts as cheap as 50 cents ... Read Full Story

If you own, or have ever owned a cat you will appreciate just how funny and how perfectly Simon Tofield has captured the experience in his cartoons. Simon has produced several cartoons collectively entitled "Simon's Cat" and they are well worth a look. His work can found on his YouTube channel but I have reproduced three of them here. The first is called "Let Me In". This one is "TV Dinner". Finally my favourite, "Cat Man Do". Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and let the cat in. Read Full Story

I confess I am not sure if anybody is actually watching these, but I continue on my crusade to find art on youtube . (Perhaps if you watch this video you might like to leave little note?) "Ant's Happy Landings" is a very moving stop-motion animation about the life of a lonely ant in the city, by a Korean(??) videoartist who I only know as jhyun9967 . Please click play to watch. If you have any trouble just download flash , which is free and takes a second. Read Full Story

It is very easy to think that character design alone determines the success and failure of a character brand and how many licensing and merchandising deals it can garner. In actuality, the very first criteria for merchandising opportunities is mass exposure before anything else. Licensing agents and manufacturing companies are often opposed to taking on properties that look nice but do not have mass exposure. Presuming we have achieved popularity for a certain character brand (for example Dandy the Lion), we have won 70% of the battle with the licensing people. They would have been convinced that Dandy the Lion is worth licensing. These ... Read Full Story
