The Smurfs are the blue three apple tall creatures who make their home in their Smurf village made from mushroom homes. The leader of the Smurfs is Papa Smurf who is 542 years old. They live a peaceful happy life with the exception of the troubles caused by Gargamel, a wizard who spends his time trying to catch Smurfs to eat or do other sinister deeds too. Gargamels is accompanied by his cat, Azrael who prefers hunting Smurfs to mice. The Smurfs became famous in the United States in the 1980's thanks to the animated television series by Hanna Barbera Productions.
