The San Antonio Silver Stars have fired coach Sandy Brondello after debuting with a losing record and quick playoff exit in her first season.The Silver Stars made the announcement Monday. San Antonio Silver Stars coach Dan Hughes is stepping down to become general manager full-time and promoting assistant Sandy Brondello to replace him.Hughes said Thursday the move is designed to keep the Silver Stars staff together, noting that Brondello has attracted interest from other WNBA teams. Former San Antonio Silver Stars center Margo Dydek died Friday in Brisbane, Australia. Dydek, who played for three WNBA franchises including the Silver Stars, was only 37. According to the Los Angeles Times, the 7-foot-2 Dydek suffered heart attack during pregnancy several days ago. The Utah Starzz selected Dydek with their first pick in the 1998 WNBA draft.
