Anna Nordqvist has won the LPGA Tour Championship and Lorena Ochoa finished second to win her fourth consecutive player of the year award by one point over Jiyai Shin. The 22-year-old Nordqvist shot a final-round 65 on Monday to finish 13 under par. Ochoa was two strokes back and won the top player honor when Shin couldn't chip in from the front of the 18th hole. Shin led Ochoa by eight points (156-148) in the race entering the tournament. Once Ochoa finished second, Shin had to place no worse than seventh to win the player of the year award. American teenager Michelle Wie, who is still searching for a first title to justify the huge hype which surrounds her, was on Sunday handed a first Solheim Cup call-up. The 19-year-old was handed a wild-card into the US team by captain Beth Daniel for the match against Europe at Rich Harvest Farms, Illinois, from August 21-23. Wie signed contracts worth millions of dollars on turning professional at 16, but then suffered a wrist injury and a dramatic loss of form. Sweden's Anna Nordqvist made her first major championship as a professional a memorable one Sunday as she fired a four-under 68 to win the LPGA Championship. Nordqvist, who turned 22 on Wednesday, finished at 15-under 273, four shots ahead of Australian Lindsey Wright. After seeing her five-stroke lead shrink to one, Nordqvist drained a 12-foot birdie putt at the 14th, then all but sealed the victory with a 35-footer for birdie at the next. Wright, who like Nordqvist had to return early Sunday to finish up her weather-delayed third round, fired a final-round 70 for 277. South Korea's Ji-Yai Shin was third after a ... Read Full Story

Updated: June 13, 2009, 21:24 HAVRE DE GRACE, Md.(AP) As a rookie playing in the third round of the LPGA Championship, Anna Nordqvist probably figured the only problem she might encounter was a little bit of nervousness. That wasn't an issue Saturday. Neither was a lengthy rain delay or fading daylight. Nothing, it seems, is too much for this cool Swede to handle. Nordqvist took a one-shot lead over Lindsey Wright by making a 20-foot birdie putt on No. 15 after the horn halted play because of darkness. The players were allowed to finish the hole, and the 22-year-old Nordqvist took advantage by moving ... Read Full Story
