The ‘Dark Knight Rises’ actress Anne Hathaway has a reason to party. Anne Hathaway celebrated her recent engagement by throwing a party at the weekend. Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman threw a private engagement bash for family and friends in New York on Saturday night (04.02.12).
But the bash, which was held at Housing Works Bookstore Café in New York, was surprisingly celebrity-free and only close family and friends were invited.
Anne was seen taking her chocolate Labrador, Esmeralda, for a walk in the Big Apple the following day and did not appear too much the worse for wear.
Anne and Adam – who started dating in 2008 following Anne’s split from Raffaello Follieri after he pled guilty to 14 counts of money laundering, conspiracy and wire fraud – announced their engagement in November and Anne explained he “ruined” her plans to stay single.
She said: “We hit if off immediately but it took us a pretty long time to get together. He thought that I had a boyfriend and I thought that he had a girlfriend, so I thought that I’d better keep my distance because I didn’t want to be that girl.
“I am very much in love with him, [only] Adam totally ruined my plan. I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time, and then I fell in love like a fool!”
Anne – who had previously been against the idea of getting married – revealed she changed her mind about the institution after witnessing her best friend walk down the aisle.
She said: “I was at my best friend’s wedding, and I watched this person who I love like a sister, and who has changed my life and continues to change my life for the better, who I feel as close to as I do my family, commit herself to a man who she loves, and I watched how happy it made her.
“I mean, she looked like she was riding a bubble the whole night. I thought, ‘Weddings are important because they celebrate life and possibility.’ “
“Some of the family was meeting each other for the first time,” adds the source. “It was so very important for them to just have an amazing time introducing their families and making sure that everyone they knew and loved was on board.”
Guests noshed on vegan burgers and cupcakes (Hathaway is a vegetarian), as well as decadent sides, such as truffle macaroni and cheese, prepared by The Works Catering (which is also funded by Housing Works, a nonprofit advocating awareness for the homelessness and HIV/AIDS crises).
Another touch reflecting the taste of the bride-to-be: the plum-colored flowers tucked inside mini bell jars, which were arranged by floral designer Rebecca Shepherd. “There wasn’t too much pink,” the source says. “Anne doesn’t like pink too much.”
Hathaway stunned in a cocktail-length navy blue dress with silver detailing – and a very special accessory.
“I caught her catching a glimpse of her ring a few times,” the source says of the actress’s emerald-cut Kwiat diamond stunner.
The couple toasted their friends and family with champagne, and “there was just a lot of gratitude all night long,” the source says.
Anne stars in upcoming movie The Dark Knight Rises where she plays Catwoman.
