Robin Monroe (Anne Heche), a New York journalist working for Dazzle, a fashion magazine, was invited by her boyfriend (David Schwimmer) Frank for a holiday for two weeks with him on the island paradise in the Makatea South Pacific. The last step of their journey, the couple flies to Makatea in a small-dilapidated aircraft (DHC-2 Beaver) piloted by middle-aged American Quinn Harris (Harrison Ford) and accompanied by his girlfriend, Angelica (Jacqueline Obradors).

Robin Frank said they are doing this because he “wants to increase the romance in our relationship.”

Thus, romance is delayed as Robin, a workaholic, the gap is known in Tahiti by her boss, to control a fashion event. She hires Quinn to fly her, but an unexpected storm forces them to crash-land on a desert island.

The struggle for survival on the island, Quinn and Robin inadvertently become witnesses of modern piracy.

The vast majority of the film deals with the adventures (often comic in nature) of Quinn and Robin trying to escape the pirates and survive in the wild jungles of the island. In the process, Quinn and Robin fall in love despite their initial dislike each other.

Meanwhile, Angelica and Frank are forging their own relationship.

After a narrow escape, Quinn and Robin eventually succeed in getting them airworthy again and they plan to return in Makati, where decisions that lie ahead.
