World Explorer Johan Ernst Nilson has finally reached the South Pole after his year-long expedition from North Pole to South Pole using as little carbon emissions as possible!Despite sustaining multiple injuries throughout his arduous journey, Johan pushed on to achieve his goal of trekking from Pole to Pole. Now that he has arrived in the South Pole, Johan will be flown to Cape Town, South Africa where he will receive medical attention for his broken ribs and frostbitten toes. Although successfully reaching the South Pole, Johan will now have to return to Ecuador in order to keep with his “green efforts”. Where he will complete the final leg of his voyage, which routes him back to Ecuador through Chile and then to Antarctica.
Having completed numerous expeditions, Johan has experienced an array of challenges, but this excursion has definitely been the most testing. However, Johan does not take this as an opportunity for defeat, he believes confronting these incidents with determination helps prove that there is no challenge that cannot be solved. This resolution is what Johan hopes to bring to the attention with regards to social and ecological issues. As Johan continues the final phase of his year-long journey, he will continue to provide updates through his blog and Twitter feed.
About Climate Neutral | Pole2Pole: Honoring the anniversary of American Explorer Robert E. Peary’s expedition to the North Pole, as well as the history-making expedition of Norwegian Explorer Roald Amundsen, who was first to reach the South Pole in 1911, Johan walked 124 miles on the Arctic ice of the North Pole to the Svalbard Archipelago in Greenland.
