Tuesday's Column: The second coming of Mauricio Cienfuegos?

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
Not that we want to put new Chivas USA signing Osael Romero of El Salvador under pressure or anything by mentioning the great Galaxy playmaker and his fellow countryman in the same breath as him. Chivas USA President Shawn Hunter, new Chivas USA signing Osael Romero and Chivas USA Coach Martin Vasquez meet the media Monday in Inglewood (Photo courtesy Chivas USA). But it's clear that Chivas USA and the Salvadoran community expect a lot of Romero. His English-born, Dallas-based agent Martin...Read Full Story

Chivas USA-Santos Laguna SuperLiga Post-Game Notes and Quotes

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
Ante Razov's deciding goal. Photo by Scott Varley Before we get started, take a deep breathe and read this fine piece of journalism on Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan and his father. I'll wait. But then we figured Kljestan would be going to the Olympics, didn't we? The squad will officially be announced at 10 a.m. today (Thursday). Other nuggets: *Midfielder Paulo Nagamura, who suffered a mild concussion during the match, and defender Jonathan Bornstein will be suspended for...Read Full Story

A Few Words With Chivas USA Striker Ante Razov

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
Photo by Juan Miranda/Chivas USA On the year's scariest night it's perhaps apropos to chat with veteran Chivas USA striker Ante Razov, known as one of the moodiest players in MLS and one you always want to make sure is in a reasonably good one before approaching his locker after a game. So perhaps it's for the best this interview was conducted via e-mail. Still, Razov comes into the post-season fifth all-time in goals (11 in 33 games) and third behind active players (although neither D.C...Read Full Story

Meet Jorge Flores. He's Chivas USA's Dream Come True.

By carnitas on  From machochip.com
The New York Times rocked a story about Chivas USA midfielder Jorge Flores today. He's an 18 year old on the squad who is known as "Sueo" (which means dream) to his teammates and friends. He goes by this nickname because his story is one contrived by something Disney will eventually by the rights for and make into a movie. Unfortunately, "Goal" was already made, but whateva. That came in February 2007, when his uncle signed him up for Sueo MLS, in which the winner would receive a tryout...Read Full Story

Chivas USA Camp Update: Razov Signs Contract, Promptly has Surgery & More

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
At the end of last season, Chivas USA striker Ante Razov downplayed the likelihood of returning to the club and in the off-season was connected to Mexican team Leon. But Razov returned to preseason camp with Chivas USA and the club announced today he has signed a new, presumably one-year deal, although terms were not announced. But in what's becoming a regular occurrence for the veteran who turns 35 next month, Razov underwent arthroscopic surgery Friday on his right ankle to remove bone...Read Full Story

MLS 101: Chivas USA Edition

By sportsminded13 on  From soccerticketsonline.com
I hate to say it, but Chivas USA is “technically” one of the worst teams in the history of MLS. They have never won the MLS Cup or a Supporters Shield; in fact, they have never made it past the quarterfinals in the playoffs. They also have never advanced past the Round of 16 in the US Open Cup. Their mantle is completely devoid of a trophy of any kind. I say “technically” though because Chivas has only been around for four years, so one cannot expect them to have a rich history yet. Plus...Read Full Story

The Official 2009 Chivas USA Team Photo (& Injury Update)

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
Because what's a team photo without the toll of the injured? Here are the latest additions to the walking wounded: left back Ante Jazic is listed as questionable for Sunday with a concussion and Eduardo Lillingston (!) is probable with a left hamstring strain. First I've heard of either of them. The team photo was taken today at the just-concluded "24 Hours of Chivas USA" at L.A. Live. No Abel Xavier there. (From left to right) Top row: Justin Braun, Bobby Burling, Jim Curtin, Dan Kennedy...Read Full Story

Final Result: Chivas USA at Toronto FC

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
Chivas USA beat a severely depleted Toronto FC 3-1 Saturday afternoon. Daniel Paladini, briefly a Galaxy player, scored his first-ever MLS goal for Chivas USA just before half time and Los Alamitos' Jonathan Bornstein added the second half winner. Ante Razov got the third in stoppage time. Goalkeeper Zach Thornton was carted off injured. Notable: *The win was Chivas USA's second victory in two weeks over Toronto; it was the club's first-ever come-from-behind victory on the road. *The win...Read Full Story

Midweek Update: Razov, Kamara & More

By Nick Green on  From insidesocal.com
Just a couple of quick items of local interest to pass along: *Chivas USA striker Ante Razov is out two weeks with a mild right calf strain. The club's all-time leading scorer hobbled out of Saturday's game against the Wizards in the first half. *Chivas USA defender Eric Ebert, already on the season-ending injury list, underwent right knee surgery Tuesday afternoon in Santa Monica. *Cal State Dominguez Hills' goalkeeper Alyssa Congdon has been named the Brine California Collegiate Athletic...Read Full Story
