Fracture Blu-ray Review

On June 16th, Warner Bros. Home Video released one of 2007's best feature films on Blu-ray in the Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling led suspense drama Fracture.

Ted Crawford (Hopkins) is a brilliant engineer. Willy Beachum (Gosling) is an up-and-coming prosecutor in the DA's office about to make it big in corporate law. Before leaving public law, Beachum agrees to take on one last case. It is an attempted murder case that comes about after Crawford shoots his wife in the head because of an affair, putting her in a non-reversible coma.

Thinking he has another open and shut case to pad his resume before moving on, Willy agrees to take the case. He is even more positive after the seemingly insane Crawford asks to defend himself. Soon, Willy discovers that he has taken on more than he bargained for. In fact, he gets in so deep there is no turning back. His final public case would become his most challenging, legally and ethically, as what should have been a slam dunk prosecution becomes a game of cat-and-mouse with Ted, a man obviously well-versed on the law, and people.

Fracture is arguably Anthony Hopkins best performance in a long line of brilliant roles. Some might argue that his role as Hannibal Lector is his calling card. Probably true. But no performance shows of the intelligence and captivating appeal that Hopkins has demonstrated throughout his career. If you are an Anthony Hopkins fan, you will love Fracture.

Ryan Gosling is great in his role as the naive, arrogant, but accomplished prosecutor on the verge of the big time. His character must try to regain control of a situation that he was unprepared for from the start. Fracture is an extreme battle of wits in which the last man standing on the long arm of the law wins. It is a truly entertaining movie from beginning to end!
