According to ESPN.com, the New York Giants have cut middle linebacker Antonio Pierce. Pierce, who has one year remaining on his contract, is trying to return from a bulging disc he suffered during last season with the Giants.  "I'm doing great, feeling great,"Pierce said in an email to the Newark-Star Ledger .   As Antonio Pierce's Giants career came to a close this past season, a very interesting question came to mind: How will Antonio Pierce be remembered as a Giant? What will his legacy be? Perhaps Pierce as a vocal leader. Perhaps as a captain of a Superbowl defense. Perhaps for blowing an air-horn at the media. More cynical parties will always remember Pierce being burned by Brian Westbrook, or being at the Latin Quarter on the eve of November...  

The news today that the Giants parted ways with MLB and defensive captain Antonio Pierce should come as no surprise to anyone. Pierce’s neck injury is possibly a career-ending one, depending on who you talk to.  With one year to go on his contract, it was a 50-50 chance that he could play this year, anyhow. Questions about Pierce’s range arose last season only to be pooh-poohed by the Giant coaches, but it was apparent that “AP” was slowing up...  

After four NFL championships and three Super Bowls, it’s easy to ignore the significance of maintaining a classy organization. Antonio Pierce was only coming into town this week for an MRI on his injured neck. He wasn't expecting to be told he'd be leaving for good. Yet that's what happened earlier Thursday when the heart and soul of the Giants' defense was told he was going to be released.  

I saw that Antonio Pierce was let go by the Giants today.  He was injured last season with a bulging disc, but says he feels great now and is in football shape.  Many mock drafts have us picking Rolando McClain, but I really don't think ILB is one of our greatest needs.  I propose we sign Pierce and rotate him with DJ and Andra.  Doing this would spare us from needing an ILB in the draft.

For some odd reason, Antonio Pierce's dismissal from the New York Giants hasn't made front-page news.  Heck, it has barely even been mentioned.  Maybe it's because Pierce is a former super bowl champion that has slipped under the large radar of the Giants' defense.  Or maybe it's just because that no one seems to care.  Whichever one it may be, Antonio Pierce is looking for a new home.
