The month of May is getting shorter at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). IMS officials say activities leading to the 2010 Indianapolis 500 will be shortened by a week. Opening Day at the track will be May 15, with the race slated for May 30. Officials are also planning to condense Pole Day and Bump Day into the same weekend.  

In the 1990s, Dan Andersen's US F2000 Series helped launch the racing careers of future Indianapolis 500 winners Buddy Rice, Dan Wheldon and Sam Hornish Jr. He hopes to follow that pattern again. Andersen announced Oct. 20 that he is re-establishing the series and has reached an agreement for it to be sanctioned by the Indy Racing League, the sanctioning body for the IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights. The Indy Racing League has created a unified 'Road to Indy' branding for the IndyCar Series' feeder championships and will develop new links between USF2000, Star Mazda, Indy Lights and top-level IndyCar racing  

The Indy Racing League has announced it will continue its partnership with Old World Industry’s PEAK Performance Motor Oil brand. The deal includes the the IZOD IndyCar Series’ PEAK Performance Pole Award. PEAK Performance Motor Oil joined the IZOD IndyCar Series prior to the 2008 season.  

The Indianapolis 500 will cut one week out of its traditional schedule in May. The track will open May 15, a week later than normal, and there will be only two days of qualifying instead of four. Pole Day will be May 22. Bump Day will be May 23. The race week...  

The vice president of public relations for the Indy Racing League has announced he will resign next month. John Griffin has served in the position since 2002. His resignation will be effective December 18. A replacement for Griffin has not been selected.
