'Modern Family' Actress Ariel Winter Speaks Out on Shootings at Black Lives Matter Protest
'Like you, I am outraged,' Winter writes.
Modern Family actress Ariel Winter has never been afraid to speak her mind, and recent tragedies are no exception.
The 18-year-old has come under fire in the last few weeks for posting pictures many fans felt were too "revealing," but those images came to a stand-still on Thursday, when current events became far more important than personal posts.
"Like you, I am outraged. Upset. Crying. ALL Human beings should be treated humanely," Winter wrote against a Gandhi quote, following up with the hashtag "#bethechange".
Winter's post was in reference to shootings at a Dallas Black Lives Matter protest spurred by the murders of two black men at the hands of police.
According to ABC News, one organizer of the protest, pastor Jeff Hood, condemned the violence:
"This is a devastating time for us as activists and organizers. We cannot bring about justice through violence," he said in reaction to the sniper who killed five police and injured seven more.
The protest was held to bring attention to the murders of Louisiana's Alton Sterling and Minnesota's Philando Castile by the states' respective police forces.
