The Blowup of Armando Benitez

By Ed Attanasio on  From edattanasio.blogspot.com
Last night we witnessed the complete and total meltdown of a relief pitcher. Armando Benitez, the controversial, unpredictable closer for the San Francisco Giants blew a game in a fashion so embarrassing that it hurt to watch. It reminded me of all the other horrible meltdowns in sports history, like the 1951 Brooklyn Dodgers; the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl and Greg Norman in big golf tournaments. If Benitez can bounce back after such a devastating collapse, God bless him. But, I wouldn’t...Read Full Story

By msilva177 on  From nybaseballdigest.com
The Newark Bears announced the signing of Armando Benitez and Edgardo Alfonzo yesterday. It’s been 10 years to the day that the duo starred for the NL Pennant winners. Alfonzo last played in the big leagues in 2006. In both 2007 and 2008 he was a member of the Long Island Ducks. Benitez played for the Bears last year and actually was in the Atlantic League All Star Game where he blew a save. I am sure Mets fans are familiar with that story. Earlier in the spring Marty Noble reported that...Read Full Story
