He was elected on October 7, 2003 in a special recall election to replace then-Governor Gray Davis. Schwarzenegger was sworn in on November 17, 2003, to serve the remainder of Davis' term, which lasts until January 8, 2007. On September 16, 2005 he officially announced a re-election campaign to a full term in California's 2006 gubernatorial election - resulting in a re-election to another term on November 7, 2006.
