This is the place to share information about aromatherapy. Do you know (or want to find out) how much it can help?
Aromatherapy works from the premise that scent affects mood, and the more concentrated the scent, the more effective. The practice often employs essential oils. Sandalwood, peppermint, bergamot and many others are distilled from their respective plants until reaching the essential oil. The oil can then be burned like incense or inhaled from the bottle.
Part of the practice is discovering what effects each scent has -- does it inspire, encourage intuition, calm, energize?
Because the effects are subtle and vary from person to person, the science benefits from lot of dialogue between practitioners.

4th Annual Lavender DAZE Festival

Looking for a different venue of family fun this summer? Imagine a ‘Saturday Market’ that last for 2 days located in 1 of the most scenic locations in the Northwest. The 4th Annual Lavender Daze Festival in Hood River draws folks from across the country to experience much more than thousands of lavender in bloom.
Hood River, Oregon--This July 12 & 13 marks the 4th year of the Lavender DAZE Festival hosted by Hood River Lavender Farms. Timed at the peak of Summer and bloom time for over 70 varieties of certified organic lavender grown onsite, this Festival has something for everyone. With Free Admission, over 20 Arts/Crafts Vendors, a huge BBQ, hands-on craft classes, massages in the lavender field, wines from Cathedral Ridge Winery, Local Micro-beer from Double Mountain Brewery, and 5 very talented bands providing musical entertainment, its easy to see why this Festival has become such a draw for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty, aroma & fun of Summer.
According to Diane Orcutt, owner of Hood River Lavender Farms, “the demographics of this Lavender Festival is about as diverse as possible. Every age, society, and background shows up for this event. We get tour buses, limos, elder care home transporters, and even a large amount of bicycle riders hit our farm. We structure our music and vendor tents to try to appeal to everyone. The gamut of audience that loves lavender is impressive”.
The challenge for the promoters of this Lavender Daze Festival is how to grow the event as the popularity of the festival grows. Thinking outside the box is a must. Orcutt reports, “This year we had so many vendors & bands asking to participate in our festival that we had to develop a jury to decide who would be a part of it. The quality of talent represented this year is enormous. We also are including a very professional BBQ vendor, Boneyard BBQ that specializes in delicious slow cooked meat, and whom is accustomed to providing food for thousands at concerts and large events like ours. Along with 5 very talented and diverse musical entertainers, and Lavender Gelato from Doppio Coffee & Lounge, we can confidently say that we have something for everyone.”
Add to this, professional massage therapists providing their healing hands in a fragrant field of lavender, adorable alpacas for the kids to visit with, award-winning wines from Cathedral Ridge (voted 2007 Oregon Winery of the Year), hands-on craft classes for lavender wands & wreaths, and oh yes, the most gorgeously fragrant lavender you can imagine all available for U-PICK. Put all of this high on a hill in the beautiful Hood River Valley with stunning views of Mt Hood, Mt Adams and the Hood River Valley below, and you can see why this Lavender Daze Festival is such a hit.
Hood River Lavender Farms is conveniently located 1 mile off Hwy 35, only a 1 hour drive from Portland, Oregon. This certified organic Lavender Farm is open everyday from 10-5pm, June-November. The Lavender DAZE Festival on July 12 & 13th has extended hours of 10-7pm on Saturday.
