This is the place to share information about aromatherapy. Do you know (or want to find out) how much it can help?

Aromatherapy works from the premise that scent affects mood, and the more concentrated the scent, the more effective. The practice often employs essential oils. Sandalwood, peppermint, bergamot and many others are distilled from their respective plants until reaching the essential oil. The oil can then be burned like incense or inhaled from the bottle.

Part of the practice is discovering what effects each scent has -- does it inspire, encourage intuition, calm, energize?

Because the effects are subtle and vary from person to person, the science benefits from lot of dialogue between practitioners.

This is the place for sharing ideas, formulas, connections.

Many kids, and even adults, struggle with ADD/ADHD, so I thought I would post this mom's experience that I found on the Greater Joy essential oils group: First for some background information: My son was excited to earn a college lacrosse scholarship. Unfortunately, he decided to quit taking his meds while away at college because he didn't like how they made him feel – sleepy most of the time (BTW, our pediatrician warned us and Bryan that 70-75% of his ADD/ADHD college students go off of their meds in college and that is was the wrong thing to do). He was taking Strattera (80 ... Read Full Story

Are essential oils for ADHD useful? The study Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by Terry S. Friedmann, M.D., measured the brain waves of children with ADHD. He divided the children into three groups and gave them one of three essential oils to inhale three times a day for thirty days. He then measured the brain waves again. The results were as follows: Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) calms and balances the nervous system and at the same time stimulates the circulatory system. The vetiver group showed a statistically significant improvement. Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) has high a concentration of sesquiterpenes, which improves oxygenation of the cells ... Read Full Story
