Scotland, in the UK, is an incredible destination to have a short break featuring an incomparable amount of visitor attractions including some of the most interesting museums and galleries in the whole of the United Kingdom, countryside ideal for hill-walkers, mountain climbers, ramblers, hikers and the likes together with a massive selection of stately homes, fortified houses, castles and historical buildings. In the following article I introduce the island of Arran and describe why the island is such a great vacation destination.
The Isle of Arran is the 7th largest Scottish island and even though the island is frequently classed as part of the Hebrides it is actually situated further south in the Firth of Clyde. With tourism as the main industry on the Isle of Arran You will not find it surprising to learn that there is a massive selection of Arran hotels. Though most people take vacations on the island in order to enjoy the breathtaking countryside the island also has a respectable number of visitor attractions including; Arran Heritage Museum, Brodick Castle Gardens, Kildonan Castle and Arran Transport Museum.
There are a few population centres, the most important is Brodick, the site of the ferry terminal with sailings to Ardrossan on the mainland. Lamlash, located four miles to the south of Brodick, is where you can catch a boat to Holy Island.
Lochranza is largest population centre in the northerly region of the island and will find the ferry terminal with sailings to Claonaig in Argyll and Bute. It is vital that you know that the ferry is a summer only ferry. Lochranza is situated in a wide, and extremely pretty, bay with the ruined Lochranza Castle being the most popular tourist attraction.
The village of Blackwaterfoot is the most populous on the western coast of the island. It features a public house, a small harbour and a garage (including a petrol station). Other villages to visit include; Corrie (north of Brodick), Whiting Bay (south of Brodick), Kilmory (south coast), Catacol (in the north) and last but not least Pirnmill where you will find the best beach on the island.
