Finally the Wurd on Nada Motel

I can't believe it took me a month to get this stuff up here. But as you can tell, I've been busy with other projects and then there's our petting zoo (3 cats and Crash the dog) and my sweet Hubby and trying to have a life with him from time to time. But there I go babbling again, maybe I should have named this the Babbling Blog! First of all a BIG thank you to all the artists and other folks who stopped by to look at my work and the work of Cherie Hacker and the jewelry of Cynthia Burdick... Read Full Story

Art for Music

I've always thought that it would be great fun to design CD covers for bands. But did I ever work toward that? No, it was just an idle thought made without seeing myself actually doing it. Which is funny in a way for an idiot savant graphic designer, but I never thought about it until last week when a very dear friend whose husband is in a blues band based in Red Bluff, Downtown and the Feelers, asked me to help them with the design for a new CD they were going to have done by Christmas... Develop a Relationship

No, no.  This is not some singles dating advice.  I’m talking about developing a relationship with an art gallery.  This is Part 1 (don’t worry, there are only 2 parts) of a relatively broad subject.  Today, I want to encourage people to take advantage of all that an art gallery has to offer.  Believe me, it’s more than just the art on the walls. Creating a lasting a rewarding relationship is as simple as starting a conversation with the gallery’s owner/director.  Tomorrow, I will... Read Full Story

Hey, did someone step in something?

What’s that smell coming from the University of Virginia Art Museum ? Well, at least we know it’s not dog poop. Yesterday, Brendan Fitzgerald of C-ville broke the story of the UVa Art Museum excluding a piece of art from its newest exhibit featuring the work of Irwin Berman (read Brendan’s article here – way to get the scoop, Brendan). This morning, Brian McNeill of the Daily Progress followed up with more information (read Brian’s article here – and don’t miss Laura’s most excellent... Read Full Story

Nov 23 Originally uploaded by Dancing Crow . I have been re-reading my old Threads magazines. I have issues 1 - 60. I saved them. I am reading them before I send them away to their new home. A lot of the articles are very technical, and a lot of the letters are strongly worded responses to those articles agreeing or disagreeing. I am struck by the extent that these... Read Full Story

Develop a Relationship - part 2

This is the second entry of a two part series regarding the rewards of establishing a relationship with an art gallery. In part 1 , I discussed the "How to" of creating a relationship. Basically, it’s as simple as finding a gallery that shares your sensibilities and starting a conversation with the owner/director. Kind of like the early stages of dating. Today, I’d like to discuss the rewards of establishing this relationship and how to take advantage of it. Some things will be obvious... Read Full Story

Art & The Economy

Looks like folks are starting to tighten their belts a bit. This thought was born after being at the St. Mary's Fine Art & Craft sale on Saturday. My friend Cherie and I shared a booth and at first I thought the slow sales were due to our work not being representative enough for the folks that were there to raise money for the school's programs. People did attend, but were not parting with their cash...sigh. So I went around to some of the other artists who were offering more "normal... Read Full Story
