"The Shadow Knows". Illustration. Poster. Illustrator

Here is "The Shadow" in another version. He knows the evil that lurks in the hearts of men. Evildoers beware, The Shadow, 'Lamont Cranston' will seek you out and make you pay. He was more of an avenging angel than a hero and I find him a more interesting character for that, not a corny square jawed hero, but a flawed anti-hero, walking the line between good and evil. I may do some more of the shadow and other pulp heroes like Doc Savage. It's nice to pay homage to what was a golden age... Read Full Story

'Tis the Season

Just recently I stumbled upon a great blog/website called I Kicked Cancer's @ss. The gal who writes the blog, Meaghan, is also a cancer survivor and she came up with this great idea to hook up creative types with people going through cancer treatments. The creative types send the cancer warriors a piece of art work (like I'm doing) or a card or a small handmade gift of some sort. So I'm sending my person a print of Hope, pictured above. Know some creative types (or are one yourself) who... Read Full Story

1. Exhibit my art in galleries

Another painting completed: "Berlin", 18x24 inches without frame. I need a series of at least 20 before I can seriously consider contacting galleries, so bear with me! Read Full Story

1st life interlude - picture of the month

I went to an exhibition of Velazquez the other day, and when I saw this picture immediately felt I wanted it on my blog - after all, it's my blog and I'll put what I want on it! So there! This isn't the best painting in the exhibition, but I love it so much. Not that I'm religious, but it always has a very strong emotional effect on me. It's called "The Immaculate Conception", and there's more Read Full Story

A Unique Twist on Modern Hanging Art Mobiles

It seems like everyone and their grandmother is into midcentury modern art these days. Who doesn't love Ray and Charles Eames? For heaven's sake they even got their own set of United States Postal Service postage stamps recently (and yes, I bought a sheet and display them in my home, what can I say?). So you say you love anything "modern" and you are a "modernist". Well, I have something new and different worth checking out. They are called DebMobiles and they are a unique twist on Alexander... Designer Andrew Chase is already knows for his mechanical animals through his Timmy underworld project and the latest addition to his collection is this stunning-looking robotic cheetah. The Cheetah will join other mechanical animals, a giraffe and elephant, in the collection that stalk the imaginary ‘Timmy’ underworld created by Andrew Chase who says: Before I started this latest project, I promised myself that this time, things will be different. I shall remember history, I will... Read Full Story

Another opening, another show

My entry for the members show at the Viewpoint Photographic Arts Center made the postcard! Granted it's the back side, but it was a black & white image - my broken angel taken at Joshua Tree National Park this past spring. If you go back in the posts to April ( I think) you'll find that story. Of all things art, the studio tour was the most disappointing. The only folks who showed up were neighbors and some friends, not anyone else who toured studios in the midtown... Read Full Story

Art & Politics

are indeed strange bedfellows especially when it comes to raising money for the arts. OK.. this will be one of my shortest rants, I promise. I'm so sick of getting hounded by politicos for money, that I'm instituting a new policy of quid pro quo! That's right, you scratch my back and I'll get out my back scratcher for you. So in the future every request for political money will go out with a request for a donation to the nonprofit theatre company that I started back in 1994 - Beyond the... Read Full Story

Art & The Economy

Looks like folks are starting to tighten their belts a bit. This thought was born after being at the St. Mary's Fine Art & Craft sale on Saturday. My friend Cherie and I shared a booth and at first I thought the slow sales were due to our work not being representative enough for the folks that were there to raise money for the school's programs. People did attend, but were not parting with their cash...sigh. So I went around to some of the other artists who were offering more "normal... Read Full Story
