Asa Coon was the 14 year old shooter in the SuccessTech Academy shootings on October 10th 2007. He shot several classmates and a teacher before killing himself.

Michael Peek, 15, shot in the left side
Darnell Rodgers , 17, wounded in the elbow
Michael Grassie (social studies teacher), 42, shot in the chest
David Kachadourian (math teacher), 57, shot in the back
Asa Coon , 14, killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head

I missed this column by Mitch Albom on the Asa Coon shooting when it appeared in the Detroit Free Press. It merits a brief response if only because of Albom's misguided linkage of the school shooting/suicide with the decline of religion in America. In covering the school shooting by a troubled 14 year old boy, Albom states that the youth in question, Asa Coon, was "reportedly" into a Goth lifestyle and Atheism. Steven Coon, the brother of the SuccessTech Academy shooter, will spend six years in prison after taking a plea deal Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
