Ashlee Nicole Simpson born October 3, 1984 is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She rose to prominence in 2004 with the success of her number-one debut album Autobiography and the reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show. In October 2005, following a North American concert tour and a film appearance, Simpson released her second number-one album, I Am Me. Simpson's third album, Bittersweet World, was released in April 2008.
On February 9, 2011, it was announced that Simpson had filed for divorce from Pete Wentz, citing irreconcilable differences. In the filing, she requested joint legal custody with visitation for Wentz, but sole physical custody and spousal support. She also asked that her name be restored to her birth name of Ashlee Nicole Simpson. The divorce was finalized on November 22, 2011.
In an interview with Paper, Simpson stated that her fourth album would have a "folk feel". On the June 23, 2011 episode of On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Ryan Seacrest confirmed that Simpson had held meetings with record executives alongside previous collaborator John Shanks to plan the exact direction of her next album. In October 2011, John Feldmann, who previously worked on two tracks on Autobiography, revealed via Twitter that he was recording with Simpson. It was later explained that the album wouldn't have a folk feel but a more dance pop sound, nothing like her previous three albums. Simpson later confirmed the lead single would be released in March 2012.
