Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen (born June 13, 1986) is an actress and fashion designer known best for playing Michelle Tanner on "Full House together with her twin sister, Mary Kate Olsen. Ashley Olsen and Mary Kate Olsen are often mistaken for identical twins though they are actually fraternal, or non-identical twins that came from two separate eggs fertilized at the same time. Ashley Olsen has most recently moved into the fashion world and together with her sister has helped develop The Row, a high-end line of clothing.

Ripping Up Alaïa Is No Big Thing for the Olsen Twins

Former child star Ashley Olsen, who now oversees the Olsen twins' lines Elizabeth and James and The Row with her sister, Mary-Kate, graces the cover of Marie Claire this month. The one-time Full House actress chatted with the magazine about her sense of fashion, something she believes people are "born with" - or not.

Ashley and her sister are famous for making high-end pieces look decidedly bohemian, thanks to their artfully disheveled approach to layering (and their omnipresent Starbucks cups).

Ashley admits that their DIY-approach to style has wrought its fair share of casualties: "The amount of beautiful things we've ruined - not having the patience for a tailor and cutting everything ourselves...My sister once took an Alaïa dress of mine and just cut the whole thing, and then she was like, 'I cut it too short.' [laughs] Mary-Kate and I don't think about fashion as these clean, beautiful objects. We just kind of wear it and live in it."

Mary-Kate and Ashley can afford to do so, of course, as they have a combined worth of a bajillion dollars or something (Forbes' 2007 net worth estimate was $100 million). For those of us who will never own any Azzedine Alaïa, Ashley's anecdote is not as funny as it is tragic.
