On Saturday morning at 05:47 GMT, Sunita surpassed the record of 188 days and 4 hours set by Shannon Lucid in 1996. Williams is the second woman of Indian heritage to have been selected by NASA for a space mission after Kalpana Chawla and also the second astronaut of Slovenian heritage after Ronald M. Sega.
