Safety Atari Bigby is ready to return to the Green Bay Packers, and the big hits can't be far behind. While Bigby is known for delivering jaw-jarring tackles, he says the biggest contribution he can make in his return from a knee injury is a sense of confidence that rubs off on his teammates. "It's like being a pilot," Bigby said. "You don't want to hear your pilot say, 'OK, we're going down!' You want him to land that thing safe and sound wherever you're at. I think that's what I bring, and that's what they feel when I'm back there." Bigby was back ... Read Full Story

The Green Bay Packers have signed running back Ahman Green, bringing back another veteran. Faced with a need at the position after third-down back DeShawn Wynn hurt his knee, the Packers turned to Green, who has been out of football since being cut by Houston in February. He left the Packers to sign with the Texans as a free agent for the 2007 season but struggled, gaining 554 yards in 14 games over two seasons. Green needs 46 more yards to surpass Jim Taylor's franchise rushing record of 8,207. Green's signing on Wednesday comes a week after the team brought back veteran right tackle ... Read Full Story

One thing I know for sure. This offseason won’t be nearly as dramatic as last year’s for the Packers. No worrying about who the QB is going to be. No retirement and comebacks. No media circus. The Offense is in good shape. Rodgers looked solid for a debut QB. Ryan Grant quietly ran for 1200 yards. Brandon Jackson appeared to be a capable backup. Greg Jennings hardly missed a beat without #4 and Driver had a solid campaign. James Jones didn’t deliver as the #3 WR like many expected. The Pack have enough young wides in place though, that I don’t see it being ... Read Full Story

Players don't win NFL jobs during voluntary, non-contact practices in June. That said, it certainly doesn't hurt Anthony Smith's case that he's out there practicing with the Green Bay Packers' first-team defense this spring while both of last year's starting safeties, Nick Collins and Atari Bigby, sit out. And having signed with the Packers in March after three seasons in Pittsburgh, Smith has a leg up on learning the 3-4 defensive alignment new Green Bay defensive coordinator Dom Capers is installing this offseason. "He was the furthest ahead of anybody when we started this process," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. "He looks very ... Read Full Story

Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson isn't much of an impulse buyer. He rarely makes big splashes in free agency. And if he makes a trade on draft day, he typically is headed downward, acquiring more picks to replenish his roster. So, it was somewhat startling when Thompson broke character back in April, trading up for an additional first-round draft pick and using it on USC linebacker...

The Packers maintained their esteemed status as the league's top-rated defense by holding the Baltimore Ravens to 185 total yards Monday night. Yet, the biggest stranglehold applied by the defense to ensure the Packers' 27-14 victory in a battle of teams contending for wild-card playoff spots in their respective conferences came via its clutch takeaways. Previously maligned cornerback Tramon Williams and linebacker A.J. Hawk had interceptions...
