A community portal about Atomic nucleus with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The nucleus of an atom is the very dense region in its centre consisting of protons and neutrons. The size of the nucleus is in the range 1.5 to 15 fm, much smaller than the size of the atom itself, and almost all of the mass in an atom is made up from the protons and neutrons with almost no contribution from the electrons.

Atoms: Protons, Neutrons and Electrons, OH My!

We're learning about atoms. We built our own carbon atom on the wall with plastic balls and velcro. We wrote "nucleus" on the nucleus and used sticky note tabs for protons and neutrons. The other balls are the electrons orbiting the nucleus. We can remove the protons, neutrons and electrons and create atoms of helium or hydrogen, too.
