A community portal about Auguste Rodin with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Auguste Rodin was the preeminent French sculptor of the modern era. He played a pivotal role in the art of the late nineteenth century, both excelling at and rebelling against the Beaux-Arts tradition. His work was redefining sculpture at the same time that the Impressionists were redefining painting. Possessing a unique ability to organize a complex, turbulent, deeply pocketed surface, he set himself apart from the predominant figure sculpture tradition.

Who was The Thinker intended to represent...

While researching the work of Rodin I found these so-called "assemblages" . They show other formal ideas than what we know as Rodin's main body of work. He must have rejected them, or set aside for later. He might not even have done them himself. He might have asked an assistant to prepare them and abandoned the idea when he saw them. I find them revealing of some of his "creation wanderings". They all are somewhere in the Musée Rodin in Paris. Labels: Art by others , sculpture # posted by Bernard : 7:44 PM
