Perth is suddenly quiet for me. Almost everyone I know in the fashion industry flew over to Melbourne for L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2010. It's been suggested that I should go over there for the event. I really wish I could. Having said that I'm not sure what I'd do. The photographers' pit will be hard to get into. On the other hand, as a blogger (or rather as an observer of fashion) I don't have much cred in the Eastern states. Just sitting around and watching parades would just as fun I suppose? Ah well, I don't need to be there though as photos are available relatively quickly.
The festival started with the Harper's Bazaar's opening party where (from what I see) a number of notable pieces for the season for the time are presented. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to find out who designed what. I know that Akira and Collette Dinnigan designed a piece each for the show. Your guess is as good as mine in this case.
The day 1 of the festival also included Autumn Winter retail fashion from Myer - that immediately reminded me of Aurelio Costarella. So there I saw four new designs. Fairly retro, refined and fitted. It's very Costarella and I would very much like to own all perhaps except the magenta dress only because I would not have any occasion to wear such a piece.
Then there was the new collection from Sass & Bide at the L'Oreal Paris Runway Parade 1. This could possibly be the most popular label among young women. I do lose interest in some brands (which will soon happen to my love for Costarella no doubt) but Sass & Bide is still going strong. Embellished dresses are not going out of style just yet. Sass & Bide girls are holding that trend very tightly.
I also found another designer with quite a refined style - Toni Maticevski. I've never heard of the guy but his design seems absolutely flawless and gorgeous. It was very much like the time I spotted J'Aton at the last year's festival. I'll dig up some photos for that tomorrow night. Day 2 photos should be up soon..
