The Sound of Salzburg

Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – who was himself the son of Salzburg’s royal chamber musician is today a center of Mozartiana and a pilgrimage site for those most passionate about the composer’s work.

Among the city’s attractions are two Mozart Museums. The first is the composer’s birthplace, which is still home to his instruments as well as numerous theater dioramas for the composer’s operas. Tanzmeisterhaus, the Mozart family residence, can be found on the Maratplatz and house the second museum.

Salzburg’s musical identity extends far beyond Mozart. It hosts the annual Salzburg Festival which brings world-renowned performers in opera, theater and concert to the stage for five weeks each summer.

And almost as powerful in their allure, the filming locations for the legendary “The Sound of Music” attract fans from every continent! They include the Benedictine Convent on Nonnberg, St. Peter’s Cemetery, Frohnburg Palace, Mirabell Gardens and many locations both within and just outside Salzburg.
