There is a ton of information out there about the subject of autism. Much of it is misleading and often irrelevant for individuals. Most parents have told me that although they might have found helpful sites they just aren't sure what to try for their own child or what to believe as appropriate therapy for their specific needs. They just don't have time or the background to know how to properly synthesize the overwhelming accumulation of information available.

This wikizine is dedicated to providing professionally and clinically informed information in a format that will help the reader to synthesize the information. In addition, alternative courses of treatment that hold merit will also be available as they are carefully researched and scrutinized as viable alternatives.

It is the goal of this wikizine to help the reader take the impact of autism in smaller steps and stages. The ultimate intent is that it will help lead others to a plan of action and an unfolding map of the future for their individual loved one with autism.

Up All Day and Night - Severe Autism Self Injurious Behavior Video From CDFoakley

The following video from CDFoakley is not easy to watch. The severely autistic youth featured is engaged in serious self injurious behavior. Those who love and care for him pay a huge price. The video talks of families struggling alone and government agencies that just don't help. Maybe if the media would stop promoting the self indulgent agendas of the barely autistic and started focusing on the harsh realities of the severely autistic governments would get the message.Maybe they would... Has Autism Speaks Abandoned Severely Autistic Persons and Their Families?

I am not an Autism Speaks basher . I have criticized specific decisions it has made such as the funding of research by Dr. Laurent Mottron who believes that the idea of curing autism is nonsense. I am appreciative though of the great work Autism Speaks has have done in raising awareness of autism around the globe including its work, in conjunction with the State of Qata r , in creating World Autism Awareness Day . A couple of days ago I thanked Autism Speaks on this blog site for the I Am... Read Full Story

Thank You Autism Speaks for I Am Autism

Autism Speaks, with its brutally honest new video " I Am Autism ", has broken Commandment #6 of N eurodiversity's Ten Autism Commandments which forbids any negative depictions of autism. The information in the video is not presented delicately but the challenges faced by persons with severe autism and their families are depicted honestly, perhaps too honestly for many. But the people most upset by this video are those who subscribe to the belief that autism is not a disorder but rather... Read Full Story

Autism Research: A Breath of Fresh Air

With all the words that are spilled and all the debates that rage over autism cause, cure, treatment and research there is little discussion, let alone effort, to actually find and prove new treatments and cures for autism disorders. It is a breath of fresh air to learn of some autism research that is actually being conducted with a view to HELPING autistic persons FUNCTION better. Such news is seldom heard. One of the funders of the study is Autism Speaks which often takes heat from all... Read Full Story

Invisible Autistics and Severe Autism Awareness at Interaction in Mind

Severe autism awareness is the focus of a new photography oriented autism site called Interaction in Mind . I have written often about the lack of attention paid to those on the severe end of the autism spectrum, the invisible autistic persons whose autism challenges do not permit them to create orchestrated videos about stimming as a language or to appear before courts and political forums seeking to prevent autistic children from receiving ABA treatment. Unbeknown to the mainstream media... Read Full Story

List of Excuses for Recent Autism Rate Increase - Add Your Own

The incidence of autism spectrum disorder in eight-year-olds in the U.S. has risen by 50% since 2007, from one in 150 to one in 100, according to a CDC report that will be released later this year. However, the higher rate might not mean that more U.S. children have autism spectrum disorder, but instead that physicians' ability to detect the disorder is improving, according to Tom Insel, director of the National Institute of Mental Health. California Healthline, October 5, 2009 It was... Read Full Story

Facing Autism in New Brunswick (and Conor) 3 Years Later

Conor, October 2007 Conor, August 2009 (2 days ago) In a few days it will be three full years since I began this autism blog. Things have changed in 3 years and things have remained the same. I have changed ... some. And Conor has changed ... a lot. The autism world for the most part has not changed at all with the same arguments being recycled over and over.
