There is a ton of information out there about the subject of autism. Much of it is misleading and often irrelevant for individuals. Most parents have told me that although they might have found helpful sites they just aren't sure what to try for their own child or what to believe as appropriate therapy for their specific needs. They just don't have time or the background to know how to properly synthesize the overwhelming accumulation of information available.

This wikizine is dedicated to providing professionally and clinically informed information in a format that will help the reader to synthesize the information. In addition, alternative courses of treatment that hold merit will also be available as they are carefully researched and scrutinized as viable alternatives.

It is the goal of this wikizine to help the reader take the impact of autism in smaller steps and stages. The ultimate intent is that it will help lead others to a plan of action and an unfolding map of the future for their individual loved one with autism.

Over recent months, I've seen many videos, ads and fundraisers all focused on the goal of raising funds for or awareness of autism. For all of them, the challenge is the same: how do you present a disorder that includes such a spectrum of symptoms, challenges, abilities and needs? In some cases, an autism spectrum disorder does, indeed, mean an absolute inability to engage in the larger community, live independently, or hold down a job. For...

Thanksgiving on the autism spectrum is usually a pretty intense experience. From the travel to the family issues to the food concerns, Thanksgiving can wreak havoc with carefully crafted schedules. And coping with family is tough enough without adding autism to the equation. By the same token, Thanksgiving can also be a time when even the most critical family member can back off a bit to reflect on the good things in life. They may even...

There's no doubt about it: Thanksgiving can be tough on everyone. Every magazine, website and radio program has a story about an underdone turkey, a mean-spirited relative or the traffic jam from hell. But even Thanksgiving can be relatively mellow if you're prepared - and if your child with autism and your family members know what to expect. The simplest tools for success include: Practice. Kids with autism do best when they know what's...
