Best Used Cars for No Credit Auto Loans

Consumer Reports comes up with a list of good affordable used cars that could definitely work with a problem credit auto loan Getting the answers

Customers financing a bad credit car need all the help they can get when picking one out.

We should know this as we’ve spent the last twenty years being involved in bad credit car sales in one form or another at Auto Credit Express. Answering questions like this and others regarding issues such as repossession and tote the note horrible credit auto loans are a big reason we built our website: so applicants can use it to research these topics.

Used cars

Choosing a subcompact, compact or midsize car can save on interest, insurance and fuel expenses. For even more savings, deciding on an affordable used car is a great choice, considering the fact that Consumer Reports notes that the average new car “loses up to 47 percent of its value in the first three years.”

Best and worst used cars

Last fall, CR published the results of their Annual Auto Survey which is based on subscriber survey responses covering 1.3 million vehicles. The resulting report listed both the “best of the best” and the “worst of the worst” vehicles in terms of reliability.

Using this information, we sorted through the report to come up with what we feel are the most affordable categories, as well as vehicles, for credit-challenged buyers and came up with this:

CR Best of the Best

Small Cars

Honda Fit

According to CR, “The Fit has been an economical, reliable, and versatile hatchback ever since it went on sale in the U.S. in 2007. It packs a huge amount of usable space into a small package and has standard antilock braking and curtain air bags. But before 2011 electronic stability control (ESC) was available only on models with the optional navigation system.”

Other good small cars from the list:

Toyota Echo, Honda Civic, Scion xB, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Mazda3, Subaru Impreza (the non-turbo), Honda Civic Hybrid, Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit, Suzuki SX4, Mazda Protegé
Family Cars

Although CR’s top pick is the Toyota Prius, most used ones will be too expensive for buyers financing with poor credit car loans.

Other good family cars from the list:

Family cars that are more affordable include the Ford Fusion (FWD), Mercury Milan (FWD), Mazda6 (4-cyl.) and Nissan’s Altima.

CR Worst of the worst

On the flip side, if you’re looking for a reliable used car CR advises you to stay away from the following models: Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Impala V8, Chrysler PT Cruiser and Pontiac G6 Coupe.

As we see it

Picking a car with a poor reliability record could make your bad credit auto loan even more expensive if you end up paying for costly repairs.
